Dwight Cooley and I were in the Paris area today for a Wings of Winter planning
meeting (don't forget to register before December 15!). We made a quick stop at
the state park and picked up a female Black Scoter on the lake. Not as many
ducks, relatively speaking, as northeast TN, but did have a few hundred
goldeneye, a hundred lesser scaup, 50 bufflehead and 20 canvasback. Only 2
loons were seen. On our return trip, we had a bufflehead and 3 each goldeneye
and hooded mergansers near Lobelville (Perry County) and a gadwall, 2
bufflehead and a hooded merganser on various farm ponds in Lawrence County.
Lawrence is usually a duckless county. Also had a loon on one small farm pond
in Lawrence...hope he has enough room to take off (or food to last until the
Buffalo River CBC).
