Dale and Jeannie Swant and I observed a
female/immature Anhinga soaring northwesterly over the
shore of Woods Reservoir just NW of the Morris Ferry
bridge Saturday evening.

I was reminded of the important Jeff Wilson-Johnny
Parks-Harry Yeatman lesson I have so obviously failed
to learn--"Never assume. Anything can happen".

Having been chased from Little Elder Island by a
squall, we were anchored near a little cove when I saw
a bird which caused me to remark "there's a cormorant
SOARING". Dale's answer "trying to pretend he's an
Anhinga, eh" provided the necessary jolt to my senses.
A second look revealed the long, fan-shaped tail and
the "too-long" (for cormorant) bill and the beige neck
and chest until the bird circled higher and out of
sight behind the treeline.

We had just had time to note a few Great Egrets and
immature Little Blue Herons among the many Cattle
Egrets when we had to seek cover.

We had earlier watched an Osprey carried a very large
fish over Morris Ferry Boat Dock.

My report for last Sunday failed to mention a pair of
Blue-winged Teal which flew into the area around the
island joining the several Mallards and Wood Ducks
already there.

It has been my very great fortune to find an incredibly wonderful bird.
