Jolly's Land Slough Mississippi River, Lake Co, Tn During a brief birding trip this morning with Duane Rice and his wife Nita and mother Mary we found an Am. Avocet feeding in the water. Always a great bird. Not many birds there initially. Did find two Lesser Yellowlegs, a Greater Yellowlegs, 20-30 Bluewing Teal, a flock of Lesser Sandpipers flew in,a Merlin which dispersed all the Sandpipers. The Merlin hung a round for a while. The Avocet went low in the water at first and then went to the grass and stayed hidden. The Vultures are very present today, both Black and Turkey. We also went by and visited the Barn Owl who was home. It sat there for a while and let us look before it took off and flew out a window and then Mary also got to see it. The habitat at Jolly's Landing will be wet for a while and good for shore birds.
