May 12, 2002 Shelby Co. TN White Co. Ark. Saturday morning I scanned the Mississippi River from Mud Island, very little going up river but a lot of water going down. The Mississippi is still on a steady rise, going from 15 feet to 30 feet in the last 30 days. Just as I was about to leave, I noted a small flock of 10 birds flying under the bridge and coming my way. All looked and flew like Little Blue Herons but one had a different cadence. It was worth the wait as they slowly made there way past the odd bird out was an adult Tri-colored Heron. Later in the day we found another at Bald Knob NWR and it was also an adult. Any rookeries should be checked for these birds for nesting activity. Maybe we can get another nest in Tennessee. Good Birding!!! Jeff R.
