We birded the Melton Hill Dam campground area near Lenoir City midday Sunday

Above the dam, at the eastern far end of the campground & looking short
distance north across the lake:

A mature adult bald eagle was spotted perched in a tree surveying the scene.
While flying a short distance to another nearby tree limb, it was observed
carrying nesting material in both talons.

Another short trip to the crotch of a larger 3-pronged tree appeared to show a
nest! The eagle maneuvered around the small area, then sat down for a couple
minutes before flying to yet another tree. Eventually it took off above the 2
ridges heading north to parts unknown.

Nest location: from easternmost last concrete pad picnic table pad, looking
straight across the lake between nearest two ridges & just starting up the
right one (near a 5’ h x 40 ‘ lg clay bank), the large tree w/ nest is just
below a pine tree w/ prominent evergreen top. Could not have seen the nest
without following eagle first using 10x binos as it was kinda behind another
large tree (maybe could spot w/ scope though).

Other bird highlights:

100+ ring-billed gulls (primarily above dam on lake, some on Clinch River side)
Pine warbler (heard & saw)
Brown-headed nuthatch
Juvenile red-shouldered hawk
Yellow-bellied sapsucker
Ruby-crowned kinglet
Am goldfinch
