The Migratory Bird Protection Act
The Migratory Bird Protection Act (H.R. 5552) has been introduced in the United
States House of Representatives. With a nearly 30% decline in the base
population of birds across North America, strong action is needed now. Please
take the time to voice your opinion.

Help Strengthen Protections for Migratory Birds
Now!
Raise Your Voice for Landmark Legislation
As you may have seen, there are now 3 billion
fewer birds in North America than we had just 50 years ago. To respond to this
crisis, we must strengthen protections for migratory birds now.
The Administration has undermined the Migratory
Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) – one our nation’s bedrock environmental laws – by
ending protection for migratory birds harmed by industrial activities,
including oil pits, power lines, and other energy-related infrastructure.
With these changes already impacting migratory
bird enforcement at the state and local level, we need swift legislative action
to restore these protections and strengthen the MBTA, and the Migratory Bird
Protection Act will do just that.
The Migratory Bird Protection Act (MBPA), which
was just introduced by Rep. Alan Lowenthal, would restore critical protections
for more than 1,000 migratory bird species. This bill goes even further than
the MBTA to conserve these special birds by instituting a much-needed
permitting system to reduce incidental take, and to encourage mitigation of
unavoidable impacts.
Help protect migratory birds by asking your
Representative and Senators to co-sponsor the MBPA today.
Sincerely,
Steve Holmer
