An interesting junco in the flock today near our place in Lewis County -- overall appearance of a male Slate-colored Junco, quite dark and quite bluish, no brown or buffy traces at all. And very delicate wingbars made of strings of white dots, not a continuous bar. I assume that birds like this that appear this far east are not genetically intergrades with the real White-winged Juncos, but are just a plumage anomaly within a "100% Slate-colored" bird. The real White-winged is a larger robust bird that is paler than a Slate- colored, especially on the head. This bird showed none of that. Still, it was a pretty fellow.
