Yesterday was a remarkable day for the Ardeids at our place in western Lewis County. I was greeted in the morning by a high flying flock of nine Great Egrets headed off to the northeast (second record here). At the end of the day I was shocked to find an adult Little Blue Heron perched in a snag about 20 meters form the back porch, in the sun allowing us to view it at leisure (also second record here). The usual Great Blue Heron and Green Herons also made themselves known over the course of the day, so in one day I duplicated the entire list of herons I had found at this place in the previous 11 years!
