Knoxville, Knox County, TN On 9/12/14 I, along with Temple members Renee Hyatt and Paul Erwin, conducted a count of chimney swifts going to roost in the chimney of Temple Beth El, 3037 Kingston Pike. We counted 307 swifts entering the chimney between 7:30 and 8:20 p.m. The bulk of the birds entered during the last ten minutes of the count period. Chimney swifts have continued to use this chimney as a nighttime roost throughout September and October up through last week. A few swifts were observed coming and going from the chimney throughout the spring/summer so some nesting is probably occurring as well. This survey data was provided to Paul and Georgean Kyle with the Driftwood Wildlife Association who are coordinating the Swift Night Out project. Wes James Oak Ridge, TN
