I dropped by Adair Park in Fountain City- Knoxville on my way to
work this morning to check on the Common Loon on the pond, and
he wasn't there. I spent 5 minutes looking around the pond &
creek w/ no signs of the loon. There was newly cut grass around
the pond, so I thought that might have spooked the loon into
flying off.

Later, I called Pete Wyatt- TWRA biologist who said that they
had not moved the loon. Pete had looked at the bird Thursday. A
law enforcement officer who lived nearby was keeping an eye on
it for a possible transfer.

This evening, we looked harder, & found the loon dead in a
recessed corner of the pond. I pulled it on shore w/ a long
stick, & after washing off the mud, we gave it a look-over. No
visible injuries were seen.

We took the Common Loon home, & gave it a right proper burial in
the back yard.

For all of you who admire birds, this Common Loon was a beauty.
Thanks to all those who came over to look at it, & who showed
their concern.
