From September 13 through today, September 18, I observed ten warbler species
on my property in Birchwood (Hamilton County). Two of those were noted for the
first time this year. Those two were a Nashville Warbler and a spectacular male
Blackburnian Warbler, seen today. I also saw two migratory thrush species this
week. A Gray-Cheeked Thrush was another first-of-the-year species for me, and
Swainson’s Thrushes were found this week as well. The other eight warbler
species recorded were: Black-and-white, Tennessee, Kentucky, Hooded, American
Redstart, Magnolia (8 seen), Chestnut-sided, and Pine. I also saw a strikingly
gorgeous male American Redstart in the woods at the overlook in the Cherokee
Removal Memorial Park in Birchwood (Meigs County).
