TN-birders,

OK, OK, I get it! Maybe I should have worded that a bit better!

As state bird count compiler, I have made up a list of the highest reported
counts for all the species in Tennessee. I gleaned most of these from The
MIGRANT, some from John Robinson’s book, and some from various reports from
individuals across the state.

But you guys are right....I am getting old. At least I feel that way from time
to time! Ouch! Another darn paper cut!

Great birding to all,

Ron Hoff

Wow, Ron. You’ve been birding a long time. I didn’t realize you were in your
80’s or 90’s. No wonder your life list is so long!

TN-birders,

Frank Bills and Sharon Bostick joined Dollyann and me this morning to try to
find some recently reported White-winged Scoters in Roane County around Thief
Neck Island. We did NOT find any scoters but in the process we found a flock of
8 Long-tailed Ducks off of New Hope Cove Road in Roane County. This small road
overlooks a small bay of Watts Bar Lake that is NNW of Thief Neck Island. They
were floating around and sleeping, mixed in with many Ring-billed Gulls. Two of
the birds were full blown males. Gorgeous!

FYI – the highest count I have for Long-tailed Duck in Tennessee is 31 at
Radnor Lake in Nashville on Feb. 3, 1929.

Great birding,

Ron Hoff & Dollyann Myers
