Odd to think of a Pine Siskin sighting in October as "late", but I finally
got some of what so many others have been reporting. When I took the
trash out just after dawn this morning (30 Oct), I was immediately greeted
by a din of siskins calling from the woods and backyard. A quick tally
yielded:

21 in one tree
5 in another
23 covering the platform and hopper feeders
10+ on the ground under the feeders
unknown # of others scattered in the other trees

The chickadees, titmice, and other regular feeder birds seemed a little
perturbed by the new pecking order.
