I couldn't get out and officially "bird" today, but I managed a 30 minute
break in the yard to sit, watch and listen around 10:30 CDT. It was failry
active.
I saw two Orioles in a large tulip poplar, first a BALTIMORE ORIOLE, and
then a first year male ORCHARD ORIOLE. A silent SWAINSON'S THRUSH settled
onto a Mahonia bush. A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT sang repeatedly and dashed back
and forth between yews and forsythia, although I never got a good look. Two
GRAY CATBIRDS were skulking about as well as two wary BROWN THRASHERS. I've
had bott these species nest in the yard in past years- maybe again this
year.
My thirty minutes flew by.
