[TN-Bird] 2007 Whigg Meadow Migration Banding Station Update

Dear TNBirders:
 =

I am sending this email on behalf of David Vogt who is currently banding=
 at Whigg Meadow in Cherokee NF in Monroe County.  Dave is banding unpre=
cedented numbers of birds this season and has already surpassed totals f=
rom all previous years.  At the midway point of banding (1 Sept to 13 Se=
pt), he has banded a total of 1,389 individuals comprising of 38 species=
.  Highlights include:
 =

796 Tennessee Warblers banded (All-time high)
77 Cape May Warblers banded (All-time high)
 =

Notable species banded include:
 =

1 Sharp-shinned Hawk
1 Black-capped Chickadee
1 Northern Parula
2 Baltimore Orioles
 =

Returns include:
 =

Tennessee Warbler: Banded 10 Sept 2006; Recaptured 5 Sept 2007
Black-throated Blue Warbler: Banded 3 Sept 2006; Recaptured 2 Sept 2007

Dave will continue to band at Whigg Meadow for the remainder of the mont=
h.  Visitors are welcome.  Those who are experienced extractors or can v=
olunteer to do other supportive tasks are especially welcome during work=
 week days.
