Hi Laz, I'm not completely sure, but rockbox, or Voicebox is the older program? Wasn't there an old and then a new wayor program for speaking?then, please, for those of us with the old zip plus, is this the old or the new system?
Maybe rockbox has the voicebox in it. I remember voicebox.Does that mean it will not work with the older system, that only the new management/speaking system will do this? I know, I should just buy a new clip zip and stop worrying about having to learn conversions and hot fixes. Please, give me the picture regarding the older system and this fix, compatable, ?? ?? I truly can't keep all of this with what else I need remember.

Here's the link for the .rockbox folder that will enable the shortcuts. http://www.wuala.com/TalkingMP3Players/Firmware/Clip%20Zip/.rockbox%20with%20shortcuts.zip/ Be sure to back up your original .rockbox folder onto the computer so you can put it back if not to your liking. Just move the existing .rockbox folder to your computer, unzip the file, and paste this different .rockbox folder in the root directory of your Clip Zip. Safely remove and then restart your player. Since this .rockbox folder includes the config.cfg file to make it work right, any personal settings you've changed on your player will be gone, so you may need to readjust your settings to your liking as needed. I can always revert to the old way by replacing the original config and removing any extra file I might be ading. I had to modify the config.cfg file and add a file to the .rockbox folder. This is what it would be like: A shortcuts menu item is added to the main menu following the system menu item at the bottom of the main menu. If one just wants to hear the time and date, one can turn on the player, arrow up once, to the shortcuts menu item and click enter twice and it will speak the time and date. Then just turn the player off. if you're playing a track and want to hear the time and date, just click the back button which takes you to the first menu item in the main menu. Then arrow up once to the shortcuts menu item and click enter twice to hear the time and date. To return to playback mode, left arrow once to the main menu and click the back button. I haven't had any luck yet in having the contents of the shortcuts menu item spoken though, which is fine as long as there's just one item in there and have yet to sort out if or how to have the battery level spoken by a shortcut. I have only tried it on a Clip Zip thus far. If anyone with a Clip Zip wants to try it, I can zip it up and pass it on. That's the latest.
