I copied a clean '/.rockbox/config.cfg' and recycled by holding the power button 45 seconds, with and without the micro sd card inserted. Still, nothing talks.

Just copy the config.cfg file from the root directory and paste it into the .rockbox folder replacing the existing file and everything should be fine. The way to reset the player is by holding down the power button for at least 30 seconds.
