Hi Bill,
Updating the firmware can be as easy as downloading the zip file of
the new firmware, unzipping it, moving the old .rockbox folder from
the player to your computer, then pasting the new .rockbox folder onto
the player's root directory. of course after that you would safely
remove the player, physically disconnect it, and restart the player.
There is a tutorial for it though if needed.
