Hi Roy,
Tried your suggestion, but still could not get message read out  as to help to 
fix problem.
Laz has however told me to Reset the Player, with the holding down of the Power 
Button for 30 seconds, and reconnecting   which I did and my Computer has now  
recognized the Sansa Fuze Player again, and it is currently redown loading the 
drivers, which will have already been completed  before  I even got part way 
through this email.
The USB Ports on my Computer are all working as I tested them with another 
external Hard Drive  so no failure of the USB Ports, just the failure of 
computer to recognize  the Sansa Player.
So now hopefully it will be happy days again and I can listen to both Audio 
Books and music?
Many thanks for your suggestion though.

This May or may not help if you are using jaws when that message appears do a 
left mouse click (numpad *) that should focus the message.  
The more likely solution to this is to reset the player by holding the power 
button for at least 30 seconds longer if you think you count too fast.
I am late on this thread so could be way off as to the solution or it could 
have already been tried.
