There are several ways to effectively make your player stop talking.

1. Change the setting about voice menus to no.
2. Change the language to one that doesn't have an associated voice file.
3. reset the settings.
4. Delete the .rockbox folder.
5. Delete the config.cfg file within the .rockbox folder.
6. Update the Sansa firmware.

and whatever else I may have overlooked.

Without further information about what was actually done to stop the
player from talking, I can only suggest you copy the file named
config.cfg from the root directory of the player and paste it into the
.rockbox folder replacing the one that's there, safely remove the
player, physically disconnect, and restart it.

Hopefully that'll handle the situation.
