Dear Whisker Fanatics,
And now for a moment of levity.
I am the proud owner of the US penny shown in the above video. The video is
my creation while the penny is the creation of Lyudmyla Panashchenko who
received her master's degree in Dec. 2009 from the University of Maryland
where she carried out research on tin whiskers. To create this whisker
treasure Lyudmyla used plater's tape to mask off all but Lincoln's beard on
the penny. She then proceeded to electroplate the beard in her lab using a
pure tin plating bath from which she had previous success growing whiskers
in support of her research. As you can see from the video Abe really needs
a new razor & those who might unwittingly handle such a coin might be in
need of a tetanus shot ;)
