Bob, Please remember this is a DRAFT. The EU is composed of countries that are not ALL singing from the same song-sheet. We had the view last week at Electronics Goes Green - IPC sponsored in Irvine, CA - from the British commerce department (Department for Business, Innovation, and Skills). Steve Andrews laid out pretty well where the Brits agree and where they disagree with aspects of these changes in RoHS. He expects some of the debate on RoHS change to resemble our Health Care conversations. Again, remember the source of the comments here is Newark and Farnell. I have commented before about what I heard that organization say in 2006 "consistent regulation is good" sounded to me like "Lead-Free is good, so we don't have to maintain two sets of inventory". Finally, why are we getting this through supplier spokesmen instead of our paid staff at our industry associations? I know Fern Abrams of IPC was in Brussels this week, listening to more of this testimony about changes to RoHS. For now, I will give her the benefit of travelling before taking up pen and writing, but I certainly hope to hear from her on this same issue, soon.
