"Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself." -Mark Twain -----Original Message----- From: tinwhiskers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:tinwhiskers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of ab3a@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, August 03, 2008 11:02 AM To: tinwhiskers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [tinwhiskers] Re: IPC Survey Reveals Electronics Industry Not Prepared for REACH Confused, contradictory, or poorly conceived laws, drafted in ignorance of the state of the art, do not engender respect for the law. Our courts are fond of telling us that Ignorance is no excuse for the law. However, it cuts both ways. Ignorance of practicality, science, and technologies are no excuses for bad laws. If we are to be expected to respect the law in any way, it must be achievable, enforceable, and reasonable. I think we as engineers, businessmen, and scientists need to point out what is wrong in a very public forum. Clearly the private, quiet comments don't work. We owe our leaders that much. After that, we must campaign against these idiots. And please understand, I mean the term idiot in a classic sense: one who does not respect government. The behavior of these poor excuses for leadership is egregiously ignorant, ill advised, and destructive. It is being imposed instead of governed. If this keeps up, I may have to learn Mandarin and move to China.
