Unfortunately, there are more than a few like that. Arbitrary laws, counterproductive laws, and laws which pursue a prejudice without justification. The EU proposal on bananas was a politically motivated law. Talk to a motorcyclist or cyclist about laws which require wearing a helmet. Politicians, like senior management, think they have to exercise their power, and satisfy their party line, whether it makes sense or not. And there are precious few engineers or scientists in government. As the pace speeds up, I think there is worse to come.
