The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King, Year B. "His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away, his kingship shall not be destroyed." Where is the Lord's dominion? How does it affect us? Can we work for it's coming? "To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, who has made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father, to him be glory and power forever and ever. Amen." How do we give God glory? Why did Jesus free us from our sins? How? How were we worthy of this? "Pilate said to Jesus, "Are you the King of the Jews?" What was Pilate's notion of a king? How did Jesus differ from human expectations of what a king was? How Jesus challenging as a king? If Christ is our king, how do our lives have to change? How are these Scriptures comforting? Challenging? (c)MMVI Fr. Pat Umberger. These Reflection Questions are found each week at the Web Site www.frpat.com. This weekend is the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ our King! We can consider the image of Jesus with a crown on his head, but also the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our Diocese has been consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Many of have enthroned the Sacred Heart in our homes as well. When we gaze at the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We might wonder about this image of Jesus with his heart exposed. That image sometimes concerns our children as well. Although Jesus didn't walk this earth with his heart exposed like that, he *did* walk the earth with his heart burning with love for us. The crown of thorns around his sacred heart is a reminder that it wasn't easy for him. In today's Gospel Pilate, the one who will order Jesus crucified, asks Jesus if it is true that he is the king of the Jews. During his discourse Jesus speaks about how we would live if we believed he were our king. Jesus says he came into the world to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth hears Jesus' voice. We need to listen to Jesus voice. As we hear in our second reading, "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty." We need to live with Jesus as our king! When we consecrate our homes and our lives to the Sacred Heart of Jesus we simply acknowledge that Jesus is our king. Many who have enthroned an image of Jesus' Sacred Heart in their homes have come to see the changes in family life when they live with Christ as king of their house. We can't be reminded too often that Christ is our king! Sometimes our faith is a very personal one. A husband prays to God in private, his wife does the same, and their children pray by themselves as well. If we come together to enshrine an image of the Sacred Heart in our homes those barriers begin to break down. We can come to have a new respect for God and for one another. When we live with Christ as the king of our household we find it easy to find the source of our strength. We begin to allow Christ to take over our lives. We are called to gather as God's family on Sundays and Holy Days, and to receive the Eucharist. When we hear the charge, "Go in peace to love and serve the Lord," we're sent back to our homes to live with Christ as our king all week long. We are surely called to live with Chris as King of our lives! We can treat each other with great respect and reverence. We can continue to do Christ's work in our world. Like Jesus, we can testify to the truth. Have a good week! __________________________________________________ <TW>This Weekend is free, and comes from: Father Pat Umberger, a priest of the Diocese of La Crosse in Wisconsin U.S.A.
