As of today the Server Engine version 5.5 is available, bringing with it yet
again new improvements to the .print framework.
Because the new version also makes installation of printer drivers
unnecessary on dedicated print servers, the Server Engine 5.5 is the ideal
solution to concentrate complete print management onto a single server ?
without sacrificing functionality.
In addition to this, version 5.5 further improves print performance. Another
innovative feature, printer pooling, allows a printer to be connected to
multiple ports. Combined with ThinPrint AutoConnect, this not only maximizes
performance, it greatly simplifies administration.
Administrative simplification is also achieved by the new option of remote
client configuration. This enables configuration of .print clients over
TCP/IP
from a central workplace or server.
Not only the server component has been
improved, though. Ready-to-use client installation means that in the future,
absolutely no user input is necessary for installation of the .print Win32
clients. There?s more: the new version will also enable thin clients, PDAs,
smart phones, or mobile telephones with a Windows CE client to send print
jobs
to LPD devices like print boxes and network printers.
