I'd agree that it's not something that has been shouted from the roof tops. But when I was first doing the TS thing with Winframe, back then, I wanted the scenario that if (for whatever reason) the mandatory profile wasn't available, then the user didn't get a session. I made this sort of discovery back then in a test lab, prototyping an environment - and you're right, it did take some hunting of the KB to actually find this detailed.
