From what I have heard (I even spoke to someone from Softricity this week) not everything works. When it works is awesome and a GREAT product/solution. But it has a BIG price tag so your upfront investment on the overall TS solution will increase a lot. In some places even if you show to them they will save money down the road, the solution pays itself in 12 months etc, they cannot simply justify another $50K, $200K on top (costs depend on what you want and for how many people). If you think a 200 user TS solution using Windows 2003 would cost you around (software): 5 Server licenses, $5000 200 TS CALs, $12000 200 CALs, $1000 Total: $18000 The you start adding stuff like: - Citrix: an extra $50000-60000 - ThinPrint/Screwdrivers: $8000+ Just on 'options' - and I did not add all the common options we normally use - you added another $60000-70000! That is crazy, 3 to 4 times the original price.=20 Softricity will add a lot to the cost for sure. :-) -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lilley, Brian Sent: April 30, 2004 5:25 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] softricity for the Enterprise Comrades, What do we think of Softricity as an enterprise solution to application deployment and hosting in a global citrix environment? I have absolutley no experienc of this platform, but what it says on the tin could just about save me a right load of hassle! How does it perform? I was thinking of getting Softricity in to our business under the guise of a DR solution! Just think, a minimum no. of servers being able to run any of their 1000 apps (except IE it seems??) in any combination on any blade! Experiences, opinions and comments very much welcomed....
