fyi. I had a response back from Citrix who confirmed that, if you enable
session reliability, then ICA keepalives are not used. The comms with XTE.EXE
uses its own heartbeat keepalives..

Hi, many thanks for your response,

The XTE port seems to simply act as a proxy for 1494 termserv.exe. Each ICA
session that connects to the citrix box results in a subsequent connection
between the session reliability XTE service locally and port 1494.

So, wouldn't 2598 also suffer the same problem? I guess the point here is
that XTE service has been coded to be able to re-connect sessions more easily
and pass back on to 1494 once comms re-established with client?

Also, as per my other question about a corelation between ICA keepalives and
session reliability.... surely there must be a connection...i.e. if the keep
alive was set at something like 5 minutes, then the session reliability
function would not be able to reconnect you to your session for that one
minute as the session is still in an Active state?

Also, if you didn't configure keep alives, is it possible that session
reliability would not work altogether??

Many thanks in advance, Brian

A different port is needed because the clients need to reestablish a
connection to the citrix server. This is handled through the auto-reconnect
feature of session reliability.

Since there's already a "WAIT" session established to the server on port
1494, the clients needs to make a connection back to the server on a
different port.

hello again,

does anyone have any idea why Session reliability uses port 2598 instead of
1494, given that its a farmwide setting a server could only listen to ica on
that one port only??

thanks in advance..
