We have a farm w/ 75+ that we upgraded from Win4.0TSE/MF1.8 to Win2k/MF-XPe=
, that was having a critical problem. Periodically, we would see the =
processor fall to almost 0% utilization and the users would experience a =
5-30 second delay in keyboard response or pull-down/pop-up menus, although =
screen refreshes were fine. It was severe enough that we had to roll =
back.=20

We applied the following MS HotFixes: Q317357 & Q320261. The later =
required modifying the Registry Flush rate from the default of 5 sec. to =
30 sec. While this reduced the problem from happening every 5-8 minutes to =
once every 90 minutes, it did not eliminate it all together.=20

After much hassle attempting and finally getting a Live Remote Debug and =
Kernel Memory Dump (can't have more than 2GB physical RAM and must only =
have a single hard drive!), we found out that Citrix' TZHOOK.DLL was a =
part of the problem.=20

This DLL tracks the time zones for each user session and can be turned off =
in the Farm Properties of the CMC. Once we did that, our processor =
utilization nose dived from 80% to 25% for 90 users.=20

There may also be a fix from Citrix. See below:

"Issue with latency and slow logins with Epicare application and XP on =
Windows 2000".Can you please apply the following Hotfix along with the =
required Registry Change for this issue and let me know the results.

Please download Hotfix XE102W012 from www.citrix.com=20

Apply: Readme Line Item# 3

3. Some third-party applications became unresponsive
or otherwise behaved in an unpredicatable or
undesired manner. This is related to the way these
applications support API hooking. The problem
is dependent upon how these applications are
implemented. To prevent problematic programs from
using API hooking, set the following registry
    value.

WARNING! Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause
serious problems that may require you to reinstall
your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that
problems resulting from the incorrect use of
Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor
    at your own risk.

Navigate to the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\CtxHook
    Value Name: ExcludedImageNames
    Type: Reg_SQ
    Value: Badapp1.exe, Badapp2.exe, Badapp3.exe
    [From Hotfix XE102W012][#257394]

I hope some of you will find this helpful and won't have to go through the =
long, painful process we did.=20

Erik

Hello,

Are you talking about echo delay or actual pauses for a few seconds while
typing?

Subject: [THIN] latency

Hi,

I am having problem with latency in my XPa /W2K environment. It occurs in
both when using Lotus Notes and Word. It has started getting bad again =
now
that all the staff is back from holidays.

I have done some searching on thethin archives, and found reference to "a
small program that measures latency" but I was unable to find this tool in
the downloads. Anybody know where I can get this to objectively measure
the latency?

We do hae speedscreen defined, and I have seen discussion regarding =
setting
the cursor blink rate (although I'm unclear whether that should be set =
high
or low). I am also going to go looking around tweakcitrix.com, but still =
I
would appreciate any suggestions from you folks.

Thanks.

Rose
