One comment that comes to mind- Metaframe 3.0 is supposedly designed
specifically to keep zone traffic within the zone and not automatically
share it with all other zones. Based on this, theoretically, if you add a
server to a zone only that zone is notified and the data store, not every
other zone and server.

Subject: [THIN] global PS3 farm..

hi list, the following two statements are concerns raised by someone over
the validity of using a single global MPS3 farm.. I have added some inline
comments

Two statements:

1. Whenever somebody is staging an new Server into the Farm, all the other
Servers are talking to the new Server that creates worldwide traffic and as
a side effect for a short moment the Load Balancing
is out of effect. That will create strange effects on the farm and might
bring up some problems.

** BLILLEY : "if the farm is not sharing load balance info between zones,
then surely this would not be the case. A new server would talk to the
DataStore when joining. And the other servers would pick up this
information through their poll's to the DataStore. "

2. When you assume that we discuss here about 3-5000 Users and of at least
50-100 Applications we will face at least every second a klick on a
published application. This traffic to the datastore will never be stable
manageable, especially not when new servers pop into a productive farm.

any comments would be appreciated.

Brian
