Thats just the reassurance I wanted to hear. I was tending towards Flex, we
have plenty of inhouse scripting and coding expertise so they can keep their
jobs!!
The only negative thing I have heard on the street is that there are/were
problems running Office 2003 using this methodology?? Any comments?

I have done both. I would say Flex kit every time. Simple easy to manage, no
"install" does not require a service account or having the user's home dir
permission changed for that service account etc.
I could go on but Like I said I recommend flex.

I think the Tricerat solution has a bit of a different orientation than =
the
other options. Also, there are two different products that may being =
mixed
in this discussion. The Tricerat LockDown takes over the user shell and
only permits objects on the Start Menu and desktop that the admin adds. =
It
also can actively seek out and kill any applications you have not =
approved
to be run. Simplify Profiles keeps a database of registry entries that
should apply to user sessions and therefore allows you to use mandatory
profiles, but then customize settings. It provides a GUI to many common
settings so that scripting and registry knowledge is not reuqired to
configure and maintain the settings.
I personally feel that this is a better approach because the ability to
maintain the solution is not based on one person's scripting knowledge =
and
approach. But of course each situation is different and must be looked =
at
uniquely...

In some customers I have we decided to remove the Tricerat thing as it =
was
slow compared to a plain TS. Nice policies/scripts/tricks did the same
without any performance hit and for free.

I quite like the sound of 'free', but there would be rumblings about
ownership of responsibility, i.e. no manufacturer behind the Profile =
Kit...
the usual bugbear I guess..
There is budget for consulting and cost per server, however if they all
achieve roughly the same thing I would obviously tend towards the free
stuff.
