I wont let my silly principles get in the way of practical matters. ;-) Still, without it, or without media player, without Iexplorer, without Outlook and without another zillion un-asked for products, the CALS for Windows could be far cheaper. You DO remember we are talking about a convicted "greedy pig" monopoly expander yeah? Im sure MS loves to replace Apache with IIS and BIND with MS DNS, but do I? The principle answer is: not in my bloody lifetime. The practical answer is: Only if I cannot avoid it or if its cost effective. > I'm still confused as to why you want to use a non MS product to do naming > services in an MS environment in the first place. Were not an "MS enviroment". We just use TS to serve MS Office basically. We are a Unix software shop. We also do ASP/ISP thingies, on Linux. In fact, we are eyeballing SuSE and Open Office big time here. Guess why. > If you are really that > concerned about security there have been just as many exploits in bind as > there have been with DNS and the open source community takes just as long to > create a fix as does MS. They all are going to have their bugs. The difference is that MS exploits have historically given people -complete- administrator access to a system. On Unixes, the same exploits usually give people some shell, but NOT the root shell. Oh, win2k3 is LOADS better then any MS OS before, so I might just be going on old imago from MS, but still... after 15 years of MS exp. and being bitten by it I just dislike it. And lastly, I am thinking integrating with BIND should be easy, I have manually put in the server names, and it works... resolving works for me. Browsing works. Everything SEEMS to work. Just Win2k3 slowly decided to stop GP Updates probably based on some "dynamic DNS" issue. With dramatic results. I have this eerie feeling Im missing a simple setting, turn of Dynamic DNS orso, and my problems would have all gone away. Sorry if I sound all ranty, Im trying not to. ******************************************************** This Weeks Sponsor SeamlessPlanet.com Domain Names Register your .com domain name for as low as $7.85 One of the lowest prices on the web!
