I've been doing printer mapping via login script, based on location of the
device (PC) since implementing AD (in just over 3 years back).

Basically, I use the location field on the PC object in AD, to point to the
name of an OU, which contains printers for that physical location. The login
script interrogates the location field of the computer from AD, then opens the
appropriate OU, enumerates all the printers in that OU, then maps them. Means I
don't have to have loads of conditional group membership stuff in login scripts
for printers.

I also wrote a HTA for our PC builders, so that they can move / create
computer objects and place them in the correct OU (for application deployment),
add particular group membership for the computer object (also for more
exceptions in application deployment), and set the location field of the
computer object (the HTA enumerates the appropriate OUs that are used for
grouping printer queues).

Ive just been experimenting with trying to write a half decent script that
map printers for users based on their location. Im trying to to create a
complete roaming Citrix environment without resorting to auto created printers
and 3rd party printing utils such as Thin Print or Uniprint.

I was having a look at the latest version of Canaveral iQ, Version 2. Lo
and behold , this actually provides Location-based printer mapping as standard.
Has anyone implemented Canaveral iQ, at all ? Does the location based printer
mapping work ?
The features seem to compare with Citrix but ive never heard of anyone who
has deployed it.

Also if anyone has any decent pointers to scripting printer mapping by
location (2003 AD environment) id love to hear from you :¬)
