Interesting...wondering if installing Visual C++ 2005 SP1 as a prerequisite and then rebooting would have resolved all your issues from the start??? Cheers, Jeremy. I then installed the hot fix which Installed Microsoft Visual c++ 2005 SP1 after a reboot I installed the hot fix 5 again this time the hot fix completed. I ran the server configuration and allowed the SQL Express to be setup and configured. again completed successfully Which allowed me to import my configuration from the test box I had with hot fix 5 running on. Just need to move License server component and Web interface and schedule some down time to do the switch over. then to get all my users to XenApp.... ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeremy Saunders Sent: 03 February 2010 14:18 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: applying hot fix 5 to AAC 4.5 Hi Ronnie, I haven't tried it, but try stopping all the relevant services first. Perhaps there is a critical DLL not being replaced. Have you compared all the files at the bottom of the KB article (http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX123627) with the ones on your system? In my case, I also found that trying to run HotFix 5 directly against the prod server that had a previous hotfix version on it would seem to run through ok, but I would be unable to manipulate some items in the management interface (changes to connection policies would fail). So for our systems, I ended up doing a complete un-install / re-install. (not a complete clean build as you list here) In my case, I did the following: - created an export of the existing configuration. - I first removed all connection policies - removed all AAC components from the server - deleted the database from SQL. - re-installed all AAC components. - ran Hotfix 5 After these steps Hotfix 5 was installed properly, and all functions of the management interface worked fine for me. I was then able to import back in the previous configuration. The problem I discovered after the fact however, is that a configuration Export will also export any CAB files associated with any configured Filters. Which means that when you import an old config into a Hotfix5 environment, it will overwrite new filter CAB's with the old ones. For our setup, we have a "domain filter". Because that was exported / imported, our filter does not allow for scanning of Windows 7 systems (which is an option available with HotFix5). This can be resolved by either removing any customized filters from your configuration prior to an Export. OR, if you can extract the needed CAB files from the hotfix itself, you can manually import the Windows 7 supporting CAB files into your filter setup. I personally hate applying updates to the AAC. New hotfixes are supposed to remove any old hotfixes (and often have problems with doing so), and more often than not, new hotfixes corrupt the installation. I have only been able to install it once on a very old test server, were I have made all the necessary configuration changes for windows 7. New server build order: Install OS--> Install IIS -> Enable Active Server Pages --> Install Dot Net framework for 4.5 CD support folder. Patch Server using GFI with all patches and service packs (method used for all server builds) Install 4.5 from CD --> allow installation to create SQL Express Database on same server Choose no to configure Licensing at this time ( as I have these components running on two test machines at the moment and they are in use) Allow AAC to run default configuration, which completes successfully. Then when I run the hot fix 5 I get a message to restart When the machine restarts nothing happened so I ran the patch again. Patch just sat in running processes until I launched the management console. It then prompted me to restart to complete the patch. It looks installed in add / remove programs, but I cant be 100 % sure. I have the configuration CAB file from the current live test server to be imported, but this fails. I cant see any explanation why this hot fix keeps failing, although I do see a lot of complaints that previous hot fixes for this product has corrupted numerous systems. The one difference in this build for the previous on that did work was that I installed hot fix 4 then imported the configuration and then installed the hot fix 5. This isn't really an option if it can be avoided as there are quite a few configuration changes that have been made since the hot fix 5 has been installed. Has anyone had any experiences on this or see something I am doing incorrectly. thanks Ronnie Visit our website : www.ltai.ie __________________________________________ Lufthansa Technik Airmotive Ireland Limited.
