That, plus the fact that one you switch to Application Mode you have to worry about TS CALs and a TS licensing server. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeremy Saunders Sent: Wednesday, February 15, 2006 6:37 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Would you make a db server run with TS in application mode? I wouldn't do that. The tuning of the system in application mode is completely different to remote admin mode, and may have negative effects on your DB performance. I would rather create a separate Terminal Server and install all their DB tools on it, etc. Let them use that instead. They should never need to be on the physical box itself. Cheers. Please respond to thin Some of the DBA's have taken a liking to use TS instead of VNC as their formal remote access tool of choice. Because so many like to connect at once they have switched TS to application mode instead of the default Admininstration mode so more of them can work on db issues at the same time on any given box. As this is an MS SQL server which is very busy at the moment with the job of being a db would it not be taking too many resources to run this is Application mode? Even if only 2 or 3 are working as well wouldn't the OS make subtle changes to the system making it more optimized to be a TS server when switching to application mode and therefore less resources leftover to perform the db functions?
