In a perfect world, every IT department might have the resources to clean install all their servers for service packs upgrade, but I'd guess that's well under 25% of IT departments, if not even far less then that. I've found that almost every problem caused by a service pack upgrade could be fixed with no negative effects of using said fix. That's why I let everyone else early adopt on service pack updates (and hotfixes for that matter). ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Joe Shonk Sent: Friday, March 24, 2006 11:52 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Windows 2003 SP1 Well, Citrix and TS are generally considered disposable servers. A rebuild of the Citrix servers (atleast for the companies I work with) is quite simple. It's actually easier for us to add/replace a component in our scripts and redeploy than it is to "Upgrade" and clean up the aftermath. I know it seems rediculous to want to have a "clean" install of the OS and ServicePack vs just installing the ServicePack later on, but it's a problem that Microsoft created for themselves. Simply look at Microsoft's history of Service Packs w/ Terminal Server and you'll understand why. W2K SP2, SP3 and SP4 all have had major issues and there are reports of W2K3 SP1 having some issues... I switched to the "clean" install concept with W2K Sp3 and have great success with it. For the amount of money we pay for Citrix, I'd be really ticked off if the only solution was to re-install. Does anyone else find that unacceptable? I certainly can appreciate the desire to have "clean" installs of products, but to be required to re-install after every service pack upgrade to an OS is completely ridiculous, for ANY product. ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> ] On Behalf Of Jeff Pitsch Sent: Friday, March 24, 2006 11:12 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Windows 2003 SP1 Did anyone simply try doing a repair of Citrix after SP1 was installed?
