I worried at this one for a long time during a recent project and never got
around it. I think you'll always get the profile selection window when you
make a MAPI request with no MAPI apps running.

So,

Is there a way to perform or trigger a simple MAPI login
programatically, say via a script, VBS file, or simple executable, so
the user can select their profile and "prime the MAPI pump" before I
send them into the Great Plains application?
