Well it will largely depend on the email client, email server, and configuration used. I can't think of many decent email clients, that won't allow some filter rules and exceptions to be setup, though. It's an altruistic concept that requires that people have a thought outside their own cosmology, employ a bit of thought, and a little effort - it'll never catch on.
