I'm taking a CCNA class and they said the normal Ethernet has a maximum length of 100m. However they gave an example that patch lead to switch is 20M and cable from switch to PC is 100M. You are now out of spec by 20M. I thought that a switch retransmits the signal in effect amplifying the signal and that each connecting device could be up to 100m away from the switch. So you could have a server connected to the switch 100M away and a PC 100M away from switch and still work fine? Matthew Shrewsbury, MCSE+Internet MCSE 2000 CCA Server+ Senior Network Administrator
