Do you mean the client machines local desktop or the published desktop? The new version 1.1 (Jim has just posted it to http://thethin.net/startbuild.zip) allows you to generate custom desktops as well as start menus. You can also include non-shortcut files and specify file types you want to be left alone when generating the desktop, so you could push .ica files to the published desktop, if you wanted to. Thinking about it, I can't think of any reason why the util shouldn't work on client machines local desktops as well. You'd need a centralised icon repository and possibly a spot of shortcut link-tracking removal along with careful system policy use, but it should work. Only for NT clients though. Yes An .ica file can be pushed out to the destop as an icon that will launch an app. It makes it so you do not have to visit each desk and create the connection in Program neighborhood for each user. Not sure I'm 100% following that one Jim ;-) Do you mean save .ica files as well? Perhaps I could incorporate a way to include or exclude any particular file types? -----Original Message----- From: Jim Kenzig [mailto:jimkenz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 12 September 2002 17:10 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Utility to generate custom start menus based on NT Gro up membersh ip. Make it be able to copy a .ica file out also. Working on it now. Shouldn't take long ;-) It will only replace desktop .lnk files, in case people save documents to the desktop. Maybe I'll include a switch to toggle that. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Boggan [mailto:MBoggan@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 12 September 2002 18:15 To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Utility to generate custom start menus based on NT Gro up membersh ip. Oh yeah...we for the most part disable start menus. Everything they run is from a icon on the published desktop. If I had a util like this to build the desktop for each user it would be GREAT!!! _________________________________ Michael Boggan Network Engineer/Citrix Admin Virtual Desktop Inc. Nice idea. We disable desktop shortcuts here, so it never entered my mind. Perhaps for v1.1? -----Original Message----- From: Michael Boggan [mailto:MBoggan@xxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: 12 September 2002 18:11 To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Utility to generate custom start menus based on NT Gro up membersh ip. SUGGESTIONS?? A util just like that but to build a desktop for each user would be nice. _________________________________ Michael Boggan Network Engineer/Citrix Admin Virtual Desktop Inc. A while back somebody on the list mentioned that he (or possibly she) used scripting to generate a start menu for his (or her) published desktop sessions based on NT Group memberships. That sounded like such a good idea to me that I've written a small utility to do the same thing without the need for any complex scripting. Any NT groups you choose may have shortcuts associated with them and if a user belongs to multiple groups they get all the icons associated with all the groups they belong to. This seems better than system policy based custom menus to me, since only a single custom folder can apply to a given user with that method. With this method you could create a number of NT groups and associate a single icon with each if you wanted, allowing you to precisely specify the contents of the start menu. I'm giving it away for free. Mail me off-list if you'd like a copy. Sorry if anyone sees this as Spam, and further apologies to whoever came up with the idea in the first place ;-) Regards Angus ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ********************************************** This weeks sponsor 99Point9.com 99Point9 helps solve your unresolved technical server-based questions, issues and incidents. http://www.99point9.com *********************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm
