Looks like I may have found the problem.
MS Article Q329405. There is a post sp3 fix.

Neil

I have now noticed that it isn't just non-samba share unix devices it is 
also the internet as well.

We don't have WINS setup here, just DNS. All our other TSE/MF servers are 
fine only this one is have a problem.
Also, it is only users that are having problems not the administrators.

Does samba register it's netbios name with an NBNS / WINS server, in your
implementation?

Does your DNS server do a WINS lookup?

Do you see what I'm hinting, and could that be the problem? (you said UNIX
server not running samba)
