Hi,

Win2k Sp3 can cause problems for non-admin DNS resolution. There is a hotfix
available to fix this, sorry can't remember number.

Incidentally, SAMBA shares would be resolved with netbios.

Regards,

Rick

Subject: [THIN] Users can't resolve names

Hi There

I have the following problem :-

We are running W2K SP3 with MF1.8 SP3 servers, and we have an application
that pulls a license details from a Unix server.
The issue is that when a user runs the app it give an error saying it
can't resolve the name of the device but when the administrator runs the
app everything is fine. This only happens to unix devices that aren't
running samba. The ones that are running samba are fine fine.

We have put the ip address of the device in place of the machine name and
everything works ok.

Does anyone know of any reasons why users would be unable to resolve names
of unix device not running samba?

Thanks in advance.

Stephen
