Hi Brian,

Have you tried pointing the CMC at a different server? If that fails as well
read on.

SQL TCP/IP will screw up if your DNS setup is sick. One quick "test" is to
run up ODBCAD32 > file DSN > navigate to mf20.dsn and in the second screen
there's a client configuration button. Hit that and change the connection
type from TCP/IP to named pipes. Now put in the SQL password etc, test
connectivity.

Try starting the IMA service.

If it doesn't start run up ODBCAD32 again and then go to the System DSN tab.
If you've got RM, then there will be an rmlocaldb entry. Run a repair on the
database and exit or just delete the DB.

Try starting the IMA service again.

If it's still no go, you'll have to recreate the local host cache, either
using lhcbak.exe, or with dsmaint recreatelhc. After that we're looking at
something a bit more serious that's broken.

Let me know what pans out, maybe I can add a bit more.

Regards,

Rick

Subject: [THIN] Urgent: dead XP FR2 -win2k sp3 farm

Hi all,

My pal is faced with a dead corporate Citrix farm... and his Citrix guy is
on hols!

I am trying my best to support over the telephone...

When he runs up the CMC, it errors with a 'failed to connect to farm'
message.

I got him to do an ODBC test to the MS SQL server hosting the DS and this is
fine. I got him to close down the servers and bring one up. This one
complains that it hasn't seen the DS for 96 hours...which I assume is what
is causing the CMC to fail.

If the SQL server hosting the DS is not available..am I correct in assuming
that the CMC will not load up?

In this instance, the DS is 'ok' as far as the DBA's are concerned and the
machines can name resolve and do an ODBC test to them...what other tests can
we do to check the integrity of the DS's data? Are there any utils out
there that can verify a healthy DS. I am considering restoring the DS.

If the farm is out of the 96 hour period...how does the farm fail? i.e. does
the IMA service just stop? Does the ICA port refuse connections etc etc.

Also...while I'm at it, does the CMC use IMA to query the farm?

Thanks for any help in advance....panic panic...reboot...deny....go home...
