I've spoken with an APC rep before and I received similar feedback. Basically 
he told me, the best way to utilize a UPS is to plug each server/device 
directly into the unit, bottom line. He also said that devices plugged into a 
power strip and that power strip being plugged into the UPS would not give an 
accurate indication on load of the UPS.
