Start with: Memory, HARD Pages/sec, CPU. If you set up perfmon on another machine it will cause very little overhead to your servers. Once you understand if it is paging or CPU there are more detailed counters to look at (my money is on the paging). If your issue is network traffic you are better off with another tool. I will do some investigation in regards to some of the products you have mentioned. Id like to quickly get up to speed on the state of the servers by using perfmon for now then look into third party products. Can anyone recommend what counters I should use to do this? Memory usage / Page File and CPU appear to be the key indicators as these are the settings resource manager has alerted me on. Ive never used Performance Monitor before. If I ran this on all servers for 2 weeks, how much of a performance hit is it going to be?. My servers are stressing as it is. I don't want to bring them all down my monitoring too much information. Any help appreciated Angela >From: "Michel Roth" <mrdizzz@xxxxxxxxx> >Reply-To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >Subject: [THIN] Re: Trend Analysis / Server performance issue >Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2006 09:44:23 +0100 > >Hi Angela, > >If you didn't set up the Resource Manager Summary Database months ago, then >it's impossible to do trend analysis based on Resource Manager data. >If you need to start today then Perfmon will do just fine. > >Depending on what causes your performance bottleneck, it's hard to tell >what >will be most beneficial to your performance.
