Yah, I downloaded their ICA client when the press release when out. As
a huge fan of Softricity, I wanted to know more about this "virtualized"
client.

So, I've called them and I've played with the client a bunch.

About Thinstall: They are basically a developer's tool. As a dev guy
you can build your application to be a virtualized app, with all such
benefits. It is not an API but a product that somewhat wraps around
your existing app. I don't really understand it yet but as I find out
more I will let you know. It is also somewhat expensive. I forget the
dollar amount but a developer pays like 5K for the product and then a
fee for each application sold.

They do plan to release a tool that will allow IT to package a
virtualized application but I don't know much about that as I've not
seen it so I don't know how it works... So for now, they basically sell
to the application developer.

From what I've read, it is pretty slick and basically true
virtualization. I.e. SoftGrid and VMware... So it ought to be
interesting when / if they release a packaging style tool for guys like
us.

It is also very efficient, for example, the ICA client is compressed
from 12 MB down to 4 and it uses only 1MB RAM so if that carries over to
other apps then I think this could be interesting competition for
Softricity and other would be competitors..

That is what I know.... I'm curious if any dev guys out there have
looked at it?

Wow Doug, I ask a question and you write an article on the same day!
:-)

Looks very promising, any info about ThinStall outside of the ICA
client???

Oh Steve.... Always check DABCC.com.... herheheehehe

http://www.dabcc.com/dabcc/webapplication/aspx/dabcc.content.aspx?intPKT
ext=1612&intPKChannel=13

And there is more...

1) it works with the PN.EXE which does not work through CSG,
unless you are in relay mode...

2) it works with the ActiveX client but that does not support
seamless windows (please someone prove me wrong on that)

the rest of the "how to" is in the article. I'm going to be talking to
one of their engineers later this week so if anyone has any questions
then let me know and I will ask and then let you all know the answers.
All in all, this could be a killer client but right now there are a few
drawbacks.

That is what I know. I've played with it a lot!!! :-)
