I've tested 32-bit Citrix on 64-bit W2k3 on HP Itaniums about 6 months ago. It doesn't work, and Citrix wasn't interested in helping me to get it working.. so we went native TS :-) Brian Madden brian@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx +1.202.302.3657 Visit www.brianmadden.com for in-depth Citrix, Terminal Server, and server-based computing news and analysis, white papers, downloadable videos, and product reviews. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Timothy Mangan Sent: Friday, February 20, 2004 11:18 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: The Truth about Windows 4GB Memory Limit That's exactly why I want to test it. I have suspicions about running 32bit citrix in a WOW64. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andrew Rogers Sent: Friday, February 20, 2004 10:09 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: The Truth about Windows 4GB Memory Limit oh yes, definitely, i know you need the 64bit version of windows, or whiche= ver - but one of the things theyre always harping on about is how itll be g= reat for database servers, being able to natively use more than 4gb memory = - im curious to know if the same benefit holds true for TS.. if theyve not = raised the 2gb barrier, then its quite clearly "no, not really" (* hopes fo= r his sake he has that right :) ) Andrew --o-- >>> tmangan@xxxxxxxxxxxx 20/02/04 14:51:28 >>> You also need the new OS support, which is in beta. It happens that I'm hoping to do such a test in the next few months. Should get some answers then. tim -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andrew Rogers Sent: Friday, February 20, 2004 9:34 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx=20 Subject: [THIN] Re: The Truth about Windows 4GB Memory Limit In theory then, are processors like the Opteron and the coming 64bit Xeon = =3D (stuff the Titanic!) great for TS, then? Seeing as they natively allow for = =3D >4Gb without PAE, that should allow us to have oodles of memory without Win= =3D dows running out? (or have they still limited us to the 2Gb kernel limit??) THAT would be an interesting experiment if anyone has the resources to do i= =3D t :) Andrew --o-- >>> brian@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 20/02/04 14:25:16 >>> (2) Using the /PAE boot.ini switch will severely LIMIT your number of PTEs (which are really needed in TS environments). Since PAE is required when more than 4GB of memory is installed, I would recommend that Terminal Servers do NOT have more than 4GB of memory. (3) The "64-bit" memory addressing model that's used when PAE is enabled does NOT remove the 2GB kernel memory limit. ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor Vizioncore, Inc.=20 --> vc-iMonitor - Performance Monitoring, Control & Reporting=20 --> vc-iControl - Desktop & Start Menu Management & Reporting=20 --> vc-iMapper - Drive, Printer & COM Management & Reporting=20 http://vizioncore.com/products.html=20 ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm=20 *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or=20 set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm=20 ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor Vizioncore, Inc.=20 --> vc-iMonitor - Performance Monitoring, Control & Reporting=20 --> vc-iControl - Desktop & Start Menu Management & Reporting=20 --> vc-iMapper - Drive, Printer & COM Management & Reporting=20 http://vizioncore.com/products.html=20 ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm=20 *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or=20 set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor Vizioncore, Inc. --> vc-iMonitor - Performance Monitoring, Control & Reporting --> vc-iControl - Desktop & Start Menu Management & Reporting --> vc-iMapper - Drive, Printer & COM Management & Reporting http://vizioncore.com/products.html ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor Vizioncore, Inc. --> vc-iMonitor - Performance Monitoring, Control & Reporting --> vc-iControl - Desktop & Start Menu Management & Reporting --> vc-iMapper - Drive, Printer & COM Management & Reporting http://vizioncore.com/products.html ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm ******************************************************** This weeks sponsor Vizioncore, Inc. --> vc-iMonitor - Performance Monitoring, Control & Reporting --> vc-iControl - Desktop & Start Menu Management & Reporting --> vc-iMapper - Drive, Printer & COM Management & Reporting http://vizioncore.com/products.html ********************************************************** Useful Thin Client Computing Links are available at: http://thethin.net/links.cfm *********************************************************** For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link: http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm
