Well, you can use a third-party hardware load balancer, but you would
only be load balancing a desktop with applications installed on it. 
With Citrix, you can publish just the application, which makes it
more secure.  Of course, without properly securing the system, even a
published application can be exploited.

If all you need to do is access a desktop, it is possible.  There are
a few people in this list who use hardware load balancers.

Hi Chad,

No, Plain W2K terminal server does not have load balancing on
sessions. Or you should use dns to alternate between several ips on
one dns entry.
