Fred - results of your duplicate machine name issue

Scenario :

2 * W98 machines both called DBtest=20
Both logon to a TS box.

Answer :

Looking under Terminal Services Licensing both machines are issued with =
a
license. Both work. Fred - I wouldn't worry about it.

So long as you've put on the TS licensing fixes, then probably not.=3D20
Of course to be 100% sure then do the scripting to ensure you really do =
=3D
have
multiple duplicate machine names.=3D20

I've got some test machines here.. I'll prove that it works or not =3D
tomorrow
and report back.

Then, is this something I should be concern with?

As I understand it the machine itself is checked to see if it holds a =
=3D
=3D3D
CAL.
If it doesn't then one is issued (assuming non W2K or XP machines). You
could have a situation where CALS are issued to different machines but =
=3D
=3D3D
with
the same name.. especially if the name is really generic =3D3D
"W2KWRKSTATION".=3D3D20

You could prove that this is the case by doing some scripting on login =
=3D
=3D3D
to
obtain the machine name,IP address and the user name that they logged in
with (along with date and time) and write this to a log file. I'd keep =
=3D
=3D3D
the
size of the logfile small else it could slow down the login process. I =
=3D
=3D3D
do a
similar thing for our licensing people.=3D3D20

Are Terminal Server CAL's issued to clients based on their computer =
=3D3D
name. I
see multiple instances of CAL's issued to the same computer name on the
License Server? Is this correct?
